Group. T.R. While he was still working at the Central Bank, he started working as a part-time faculty member at METU Department of Economics in 1979. Prof. Dr. Şenses worked as a full-time lecturer at METU Department of Economics between 1980-1981, as an Assistant Professor between 1981-1985, as an Associate Professor between 1985 and 1991, and as a Professor Doctor from 1991 until his retirement in 2014. Prof. Dr. Following his retirement in 2014, Fikret Şenses continued to teach as a part-time faculty member at METU Department of Economics. During his time at METU Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Fikret Şenses continued his research abroad at regular intervals. He studied at the Department of Economics at Harvard University in the USA between 1987 and 1988, at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in England in September 1989, at the Tokyo Institute of Developing Economies in Japan in 1990 and in March-August 1997. He was a visiting researcher at the Department of Economics at Columbia University, USA, within the scope of the Fulbright Scholarship. Prof. Dr. In addition to his academic career, Şenses also held high-level administrative positions. He served as the Head of METU Department of Economics between 1991-1992, as a Member of the Council of Higher Education between 2005-2009, and as a Member of the METU Senate between 2010-2014. In addition to these duties, he served as a member of the Editorial Board of METU Development Journal between 1981 and 1983, and then served as the Editor of the same journal between 1983 and 1987. He has also served as a scientific committee member in many institutions and an editorial board member in domestic and international journals. Prof. Dr. Fikret Şenses has received many awards throughout his academic life. Among these, he received the Prof. Dr. in 1997 and 1999. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Education and Research Foundation, METU Educator of the Year Award was given to Prof. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Education and Research Foundation, METU Outstanding Achievement Award in Education, and Turkish Economic Association Academic Service Award, which he received in 2017. The "Young Economist Award" was given in honor of Fikret Şenses at the 16th International Student Congress organized by Ege University on 24-25 April 2013. To the undergraduate students who showed outstanding success in METU Department of Economics during the year, Prof. Dr. In honor of Şenses, “Prof. Dr. Fikret Şenses Achievement Award" is given. Prof. Dr. Şenses' research focuses on Development Economics, Industrialization and Foreign Trade Policy, Labor Markets in Developing Countries, Poverty, International Economics and Economic Education. Fikret Şenses has advised on many master's and doctoral theses in these fields, published articles in many international and national journals, and authored many books. His research and all his publications constitute an important resource for the generations that come after him. Prof. is married to Melek Şenses, a graduate of METU Department of Economics. Dr. Fikret Şenses has a daughter (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Zeynep Şenses), who is also an Economist, and two grandchildren. Prof. Dr. Fikret Şenses passed away on January 20, 2023.
