Umur Talaslı

Prof. is one of the most important names in the field of experimental psychology in Turkey. Dr. Umur Talaslı was born in Kabul in 1944. After graduating from Kadıköy Anatolian High School with first place in 1962, he received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Department of Social Sciences at Middle East Technical University in 1967, also with honors. Talaslı, who went to the USA with a Fulbright Scholarship for his graduate education, completed his master's and doctoral education in the Experimental Psychology program of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and started working as a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Middle East Technical University in 1978. He received the title of assistant professor in 1982, associate professor in 1985 and professor in 1993. Talaslı, who worked as an academician at METU for 27 years, taught many courses, especially on perception, learning, memory and cognition; He took an active role in the establishment of METU Psychology laboratory. Talaslı, who served as one of the founding editors of the Journal of Human Sciences, which started to be published at METU, also served as assistant editor for a long time (1990-2000) in the Perceptual and Motor Skills journal within the scope of SSCI. In addition to his academic studies, he also served as Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology at METU during its second establishment period as a separate department (since 1982). Prof. has made significant contributions to the field of experimental psychology, especially with his studies on visual perception. Dr. Umur Talaslı is known by his students as an excellent teacher. This feature was demonstrated by METU Prof. in the 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 academic years. Dr. The Educator of the Year Award given by the Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation was registered with the Outstanding Achievement Award in Education in the 1996-1997 academic year. Prof. Dr. Umur Talaslı retired and left METU in 2005 and continued to teach at Atılım University between 2007-2018. Talaslı, who passed away in 2022, is married and has three children.
