The paper surveys the literatüre on the developmental impacts of transnational corporations. It argues that despite wide variations in terms of analytical emphasis and empirical orientation, there exists a coherent body of literatüre with definitive, coherent and causally linked hypotheses regarding the emergence of the transantional corparation per se, the impacts of TNCs on world development, and the political economy of international investment (i.e. international relations), with definitive policy implications.
