AN ECONOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF MARKETING MARGINS FOR SUNFLOWER SEED IN TURKEY

This paper examines the marketing margins for sunflower seed in Turkey .Using annual data on farm level and wholesale prices for 1978-1988, margins are shown to have two components: an absolute spread and a percentage spread.Price transmissions from wholesale price to farm level prices are highly inelastic while margin transmissions from wholesale price to margins are elastic. Hence, farm level prices are insulated from changes in the wholesale prices which affect margins only.
