RESPECTIVE ROLES OF THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC FACTORS IN THE REPRODUCTION AND DISSOLUTION OF THE MEDIEVAL SOCIETY

TÜNAY, Muharrem
This paper attempts at a clarification of the complex relationship^) between the economic and political factors within a given social formation. Since it is highly unrealistic to carry out such an ambitious study in every historical and/or contemporary social formation, only the Medieval European case is taken under examination. Feudal system sheds light not only on many aspects of the Medieval social structure in Europe, but also on the dominance of the economic level over those of the political, cultural, and ideological. This being the major theme of the paper, certain theoretical assessments, which are beyond historical narration, are made to stimulate further discussion in political theory.
