Focussing on the period after 1974 this study analyzes Greek foreign policy in the framework of US-European rivalry and assesses whether or not Greek foreign policy has experienced a remarkable shift from unconditional Atlanticism to Europeanization in this period. The article concludes that the emergence of Europe as an alternative economic and political power bloc in the international political economy in the mid-1970s led to significant changes in the internal socio-political conditions and accordingly brought a shift towards Europeanization in the foreign policy orientations of the Greek state.
