The subject of the essay is the structure of Turkish manufacturing industry in 1973. Based on the data of 1973 Input-Output Table, analysis run primarily in two directions: (a) sectoral interdependence; (b) economic structure and distribution; Evaluation of interdependence among sub-sectors is aimed at to pinpoint the 'key sectors' in the Turkish manufacturing. According to backward and forward linkages basic metals, chemicals, petroleum products and machinery are the key sectors. This quantitative result is based on both direct and total input requirements. The structure of production and distribution are discussed by using the organic composition of capital, the rate of surplus product and the rate of profit in the sectoral level. Analysis indicate that, in general, a higher organic composition does not correspond to a higher rate of surplus or profit. In addition, sales and import taxes are not evenly distributed among the sectors to eradicate profit differences. But one point is clear, that is the share of wages is on the average about half of the surplus product. Lastly, the effect of sectoral wage rates on the price level analysed in accordance with direct and total labor requirements. Findings indicate that even a hundred percent wage increase in all sectors will not bring prices more than 22-44 percent in different sectors.
