Engel curves for deven expenditııre groups are estimated using urban housefoold expenditure survey of Turkey, 1978-79. The nine functional forms generated by various direct and indirect utility functions are considered. Working-Leser form performed best confirming earlier empirical support for this form. Estimated expenditure elasticities and the marginal budget shares from various functional forms are similar at the sample mean but not the household size elasticities.
