This paper is an attempt to define a regional scheme for Turkey based on criteria pertaining to various dimensions of the agricultu- ral production process, employing a number of different muîtivariate statistical techniques. Although the primary ainı of such a categori- satioıı is to facilitate the analysis of change in the regional struc- ture of Turkish agriculture and its determinants, the scheme can be employed gainfuîly not only to ideııtify areas requiring priority in the allocation of public ıesources but aîso to serve as a sampîing and aggregation framework for surveys and regional supply and production analysis.
