Residential buildings are a major source of carbon emissions worldwide, and Türkiye is no exception. As urbanization accelerates and energy demands rise, reducing carbon emissions from residential structures is crucial for achieving sustainable development goals. This thesis analyzes the drivers of direct emissions from residential buildings in Türkiye. The research objectives include a comprehensive analysis of the current drivers of direct carbon emissions from buildings and the proposal of innovative climate strategies tailored to Türkiyes residential sector. The study employs the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) method for index decomposition analysis to identify contributions from different drivers to carbon emissions. This thesis contributes to the research by providing targeted policy recommendations aligned with Türkiyes' climate goals, offering long-term perspectives for policymakers, and facilitating the transition toward a low-carbon future. Supported by detailed trend analyses for each driver, the results highlight specific actions and strategies to effectively reduce carbon emissions. By bridging the gap between research findings and practical implementation in residential buildings, this thesis promotes a more sustainable built environment in Türkiye.
