Tlıe purpose of this paper is to make some general and tentative comments about the re- liability of the official yield estimates published during the 1951-1973 period. Using the coefficients of determination of a model developed to explain the variations in the yield series, three diîferent expectations concerning the possible distribution of estimation errors across crops and provinces, aro tested. The resuits indicate that these errors are relatively larger for minör crops, for those that aro not subjeet to government intervention and in lsss developed provinces.
