This paper deals with a methodology used to evaluate the effects of economical changes on an agricultural production system and indirectly on the environmental conditions, especially soil erosion, in Argentina. This methodology, based on an static linear programming model, presents the innovation of using a plant growth simulation model to define the activities. This allows the introduction of rotations and activities not actually used in the region, but which could be adopted if the economic conditions changed. In the exercise realized for the Argentine case, the simulated policies were not sufficient to induce a change in the production system which could assure the diminution of the erosion process and therefore these policies should be substituted with more specific ones to comply in the long run with environmental concern.
