AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT POLICIES IN TURKEY : A SURVEY OF LITERATURE

1979
Somel, Kutlu
In this survey article, the literature on agricultural support policies in Turkey is reviewed. The time period covered is 1950-1980. The effects of such policies are discussed with respect to price and income stability, output increases and technological developments, income distribution and inflation. A synthesis is developed where political influences are discounted, and, instead economic motives are emphasized. The basic hypothesis is that there were conscious agricultural policies in Turkey whereby resources were transferred to agriculture with the purpose of developing it as a viable market f o r consumption and production goods.
