This paper reports, on the further findings of a study which attempts to measure the responsiveness of Turkish farmers to economic variables in general and changes in prices in particular. The short-run and long-run elasticities of price and yield are estimated for two major annual crops, namely wheat and cotton for the period of 1948-1977. The basic model employed is a modified four equation version of Nerlovian dynamic supply response model. Linear as well as nonlinear estimation techniques are employed to estimate the elasticities. The results suggest that both wheat and cotton producers respond positively to expected relative price and expected relative yield. Introduction of new wheat varieties resulted in more optimistic relative wheat price expectations, and the introduction of price support policy to cotton resulted in more pessimistic relative cotton price expectations.
