The effect of tempering on susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking of AISI 4140 steel in 33% sodium hydroxide at 80 degrees C
Sarioglu, F (2001-09-30)
The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviour of low alloy steel AISI 4140 was investigated in 33% sodium hydroxide solution at 80 degreesC under freely corroding conditions. Tempering temperatures of 450, 500, 550, 600 and 650 degreesC were used to produce a range of micro structures and strength levels. The relation between the crack growth rate and the stress intensity factor was obtained by constant displacement rate tests conducted on pre-cracked compact tension specimens. The crack growth behaviour an...

The effect of different solvents on the performance of zeolite-filled composite pervaporation membranes
Sener, Tansel; Okumus, Emin; Gurkan, Turker; Yılmaz, Levent (2010-10-15)
The aim of this research is to study effect of different solvents on the membrane morphology and on the performance of zeolite-filled composite pervaporation membranes. PAN (polyacrylonitrile) was used as a base polymer and zeolite 13x (32 wt.%) was used as the filler. The solvents considered were DMF (dimethyl formamide), DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide), DMAc (dimethyl acedamide) and THF (tetrahydrofuran). The cross-sectional morphology of manufactured membranes shows three layers: a zeolite-free polymer layer, ...
The Effect of nanosilica on the properties of pumice incorporated blended cement
Dündar, Burak; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Şahmaran, Mustafa; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
Because of the high energy requirement and high CO2 amount as a waste of burned CaCO3 present in raw material, Portland Cement production is also responsible from the CO2 emission among other responsible industries. In order to reduce such an energy consumption, use of portland cement clinker is aimed to be reduced in construction industry. For this aim, use of materials called pozzolan has become widespread. Through the use of pozzolans, the amount of Portland Cement Clinker in structural concrete can be r...
