Stereoregular polymerization of propylene oxide by bis-dimethylaluminium oxide
Oktem, Z; Alyuruk, K (1998-02-01)
Stereoregular polymerization of propylene oxide (PO) by bis-dimethylaluminum oxide (BMAO) was studied. It is found that at 80 degrees C a relatively high initial rate of the process rapidly dies away. Hy measuring and identifying the evolved by-product gases of the polymerization it was concluded that the decay of the rate is due to the transfer of a proton from the methyl (Me) group of PO, to the Me-Al groups of BMAO, by forming an aluminium allylalkoxide bond and a methane molecule. However, this transfor...
Cyclacene tubes having silaannulenic peripheries - AM1 treatment
Türker, Burhan Lemi; Bayer, I (2000-07-01)
The cyclacene tubes T(R, r) consisting of the Huckel type intermolecularly unioned (r = 6) cyclacenes having R arenoid rings (R = 3 - 6) and a single silaannulenic periphery are considered for AM1 type semiempirical molecular orbital calculations. The cases in which the silaannulenic periphery occupies different locations (layers A-D from top to middle) along the tube axis are investigated. It has been found that doping of silicon atoms in the top (or bottom) periphery of the cyclacene tubes has a stabilizi...

Cyclodextrin inhibits zinc corrosion by destabilizing point defect formation in the oxide layer
Altin, Abdulrahman; Krzywiecki, Maciej; Sarfraz, Adnan; Toparlı, Çiğdem; Laska, Claudius; Kerger, Philipp; Zeradjanin, Aleksandar; Mayrhofer, Karl J. J.; Rohwerder, Michael; Erbe, Andreas (2018-03-01)
Corrosion inhibitors are added in low concentrations to corrosive solutions for reducing the corrosion rate of a metallic material. Their mechanism of action is typically the blocking of free metal surface by adsorption, thus slowing down dissolution. This work uses electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to show the cyclic oligosaccharide beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) to inhibit corrosion of zinc in 0.1M chloride with an inhibition efficiency of up to 85%. Only a monomolecular adsorption layer of beta-CD is p...
