Muharrem Timuçin was born in 1941. He completed his master's degree at METU and started working as an assistant in 1964. In 1966, faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Mustafa Doruk and Prof. With the mission of developing the field of production metallurgy in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, established under the leadership of Ariel Taub, he went to the USA with a UNESCO scholarship and completed his doctoral study at the University of Missouri-Rolla and his postdoctoral study at Pennsylvania State University. He returned to his job at METU in 1970 and served as Vice Rector, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dean and Department Head. During his years as an administrator, METU Development Foundation Schools were established and he served as the Chairman of the METU Development Foundation Schools Board of Trustees.
