This study aims to investigate whether instructional clarity, certain aspects of teaching strategies, and students’ science achievement have been affected by the variables for school attributes, practices and policies, school composition, classroom composition and climate, teacher characteristics, beliefs and practices by using results of TIMSS 2019. TIMSS is the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study which is the study of International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) that is held every four years. TIMSS measures rich subjects in various items and collects data from students, teachers, principals, and students’ caregivers. In this study, the items selected from TIMSS 2019 for school attributes and policies, school composition, classroom composition, teacher characteristics and practices are: school emphasis on academic success, teachers’ emphasis on science investigation, students’ sense of school belonging, home educational resources, respect for classmates, student bullying, teachers’ job satisfaction, teaching limited by student needs, and professional development past science pedagogy. These selected items have been explored by means of clarity of instruction, teaching strategies, and student achievement in science separately. Findings have been obtained by logistic regression. According to results, science achievement, instructional clarity, and certain aspects of teaching strategies could be predicted by the items given above. Findings have been evaluated by consideration of literature. Due to the limited number of studies around these variables and their relationship between teaching strategies, it is predicted that this study will shed light on further studies focused on these variables.
