Ömer Yağız

Ömer Yağız was born in 1940. He received his undergraduate degree from METU Department of Business Administration (1962), his MBA from Cornell University (1965), and his doctorate from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill (1973). During his doctoral studies, he worked as a "Teaching Assistant" at UNC-CH for 3 years. After receiving his doctorate degree, he started working as a faculty member at METU Department of Business Administration. He served as Deputy Head of the METU Department of Business Administration between 1975-77, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences between 1977-78, Head of the Department of Business Administration in 1980, and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences between 1980-82. He continued his academic life, which started as a research assistant at METU in 1965 and continued in various positions until 1982, abroad between 1982-88 upon the offer he received from the Saudi Arabian University of Petroleum and Minerals (UPM). During his 6-year working period at UPM, he received the "Outstanding Teacher at the College of Industrial Management" and "Distinguished Service to the University" awards. S.A. He developed the "Aircraft Scheduling Model" for airlines and S.A. He worked as a project consultant for the Railways Authority. He returned to METU Department of Business Administration in 1988. Between 1989 and 1992, he served as the elected representative of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in the METU Senate. State Investment Bank, Ministry of Industry, Roketsan, Türkiye Şeker Fabrikaları A.Ş. He provided research and consultancy services to various institutions, including. In addition to his academic activities, he also took on active roles in service to the university, such as being the President of the METU Sports Club and a founding member of the METU Alumni Association. In 1994, upon an offer from TRNC Eastern Mediterranean University, he took a leave of absence from METU and worked in Cyprus. In 1997, he returned to his job at METU Department of Business Administration. In 1999, he retired from METU and continued his academic life at TRNC Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) until 2007. He served as the Head of EMU Business Administration Department between 2001-2003. He took part in the founding team of the "Distance Education Institute" and was later appointed as a member of the Executive Board. He took part in institutionalization efforts to bring the EMU publishing unit to the level of the most successful university examples in Turkey. Upon requests from outside the university, he gave seminars/conferences in the field of Quality Management in many TRNC institutions. After returning to Turkey in 2007, he continued to teach as a part-time faculty member at METU Department of Business Administration. In the period until his death in September 2019, METU Development Foundation (GV) (2010-2017) and METU GV Eğitim Hizmetleri A.Ş. (2010-2017) Member of the Board of Directors and METU GV Yayıncılık ve İletişim A.Ş. (2010-2019) He continued his services to METU as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
