Gürdal Alaeddinoğlu was born in 1945 in Hınıs, Erzurum. He completed his undergraduate education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Technology in 1967. In 1976, he received his PhD in bacterial genetics from the University of Reading (England). In 1976, he started working as an Assistant Professor at METU Department of Biological Sciences. He was appointed as Associate Professor in 1982 and as Professor in 1988. He conducted research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, between 1985 and 1986. Prof. is one of the founders of METU Biotechnology Research Unit. Alaeddinoğlu served as the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences and the Head of the Institute of Science and Technology, Biotechnology Department, between 1997 and 2000. Prof. is the author of many scientific articles and provides consultancy services for various government organizations and the private sector. Dr. Alaeddinoğlu retired from METU in 2005.
