There was once an International Youth Theater Festival in Istanbul, but it was banned. There was an Inter-University Theater Festival in Ankara. It was prevented after 1971. The ILTÖ, Inter-High School Theater Competition in Istanbul was just beginning to spread nationwide, but it was stopped last year due to political pressure. Fortunately, it was held again this year. However, the existence of amateur youth and university theater groups in a country, their coming together, not only presenting shows one after another, but also creating an environment for discussion, is a success not only in terms of theater, but above all, in terms of freedom of thought and thought. Because we believe in this, we applaud the "Inter-University Theater Festival" initiative held by the Middle East Technical University last week.
