1995
Candemir, H. Baturalp
World military expenditures have been increasing since the Second World War. Although some deceleration is observed in the second half of 1980s, countries still spend a considerable part of their scarce resources for their military sectors. The movement of scarce resources from the non-military sector to the military sector has opportunity costs. This brings the subject into the scope of economics. This paper offers a literature survey on the relationship between military expenditures and economic performance. Some considerations involving the developments in military expenditures and arms transfers on a worldwide basis, as well as for the case of Turkey, are also provided.
