Mutual impedance between two closely spaced an-tennas is analytically computed using spherical harmonics and reaction theorem. When two antennas are closely spaced, a reaction surface that lies completely in the convergence region of spherical wave expansion of both antennas can not be found. In this study, a method that overcomes this problem is introduced. The mutual impedance is expressed as a summation of the product of spherical harmonic coefficients of antennas. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by analyzing half-wave dipoles and printed dipoles. In the latter case, the results are also confirmed by measurement.
