Talafha, Hussian
This paper uses the Keynesian income determination model to estimate the effect of remittances on the Jordanian economy. Consumption, Investment, and Import functions are estimated and used to estimate the remittances multiplier on the GNP which was 1. 2. The paper shows that a one Dinar increase in remittances induces 0.61 Dinar increase of investment. 0.49 of them of housing investment, 0.71 Dinar of imports and 0.47 Dinar of consumption. Finally the paper concludes that some measures are needed to be taken by government to channel remittances to development, and to develop alternative sources of finance to replace remittances in case they drop drastically.
