Historical highland settlements are formed by the interaction and unity of human, culture (transhumance), nature and traditional built-up environment. However, while the needs and socio-cultural and economic behaviors of human beings change over time, they also transform the environments with which they constantly interact. The depopulation of rural areas with the increase in industrialization causes the abandonment of rural settlements, the end of animal husbandry and agriculture in terms the loss of the socio-cultural and economic value of the area. Sorgun is a historical highland settlement with its nature, climate, flora and fauna, a nature park nearby, traditional houses and transhumance tradition and in 2022 was designated as a Sustainable Protection and Controlled Use Area. That creates a threat of uncontrolled transformation of the historical highland settlement as the registration in question is not for the conservation of the settlement as a rural heritage site. This thesis aims to develop a road map for conservation of Sorgun highland. For this purpose, to understand the character of place, general characteristics of the Sorgun neighborhood, official status of highland, relevant legislations are examined, as a result of the information obtained in the field studies to be carried out together with the literature research, and the values, problems, potentials and the challenges of the area are determined. In addition, how the inhabitants evaluate the change of the settlement over the years, their expectations and demands regarding the area are also considered. There are challenges such as the loss of value of the traditional buildings, settlement and transhumance culture due to the depopulation. In addition, there are problems of title deed problems, ownership, occupation, lots and the possible threat of uncontrolled transformation of the area in the current process. In this context, a road map for the conservation of Sorgun highland settlement was developed by evaluating the data obtained from the field survey and the opinions/expectations of the local people and the challenges of the settlement.
