The basis of the study is to examine the active social movements after 2000 until today such as labor, ecological, student, feminist and LGBTI+ movements in Turkey through the eyes of social movement theories and to try to show the impact of humor on movements in Turkey. I make use of the concepts of framing process, collective identity and emotion to analyze the functions of humor use on social movements in Turkey. This thesis applies qualitative methods through which in-depth semistructured interviews with 4 activists from each of the five movements, totaling 20 people. In the light of the findings, it can be said that the more the movements interact with each other, the more they use humor in framing, collective identity and emotion processes. It is seen that all the social movements included in this study use humor in the framing process of movements as providing concise communication, attracting attention, humiliating oppressive authorities and revealing the absurdity of oppressive policies. In the feminist and LGBTI+ movements, the use of humor has a strong effect on collective identity by creating a friendly environment and creating areas where the subjects of the movement can easily communicate with each other, strengthening solidarity and ensuring that the collective identity is further adopted. Regarding the effect of humor use on the emotional process in social movements in Turkey, it can be said that humor use serves as an emotional management function by controlling the fearful environment caused by pressures for each of the movements.
