G. Holmes Perkins

In 1954, Professor Charles Abrams from the University of Pennsylvania was sent to Turkey by the United Nations (UN) to conduct research on the housing problem in the Middle East and on architecture and urban-regional planning education at universities. After completing his studies, Abrams submitted a report to the UN in which he suggested the establishment of a technology institute in Turkey to provide architecture and urban planning education. In line with this suggestion, the UN assigned G. Holmes Perkins, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, to the task of establishing an institute that would train Turkish architects and urban-regional planners. Parkins served as a consultant during the establishment of the Middle East Technical University (METU) and contributed to the shaping of the university's campus planning and education model.
