Tsunamis related to seismic events have been effective in the Aegean Sea throughout the history. 30 October 2020 Samos-Izmir Tsunami reminded the importance of the tsunami events in the Aegean sea. In this regard, the similarities in the occurence location, magnitudes and the coastal effects of some tsunami events in the last two centuries in Eastern Aegean Sea have attacted attention. There are two pair tsunamis to be considered as examples of these kind of tsunamis. They are the earthquake and tsunami events occurred in Edremit on 7 March 1867 and 6 October 1944 and the earthquake and tsunami events occurred in Çeşme – Sakız (Chios) region on 3 April 1881 and 23 July 1949. In this study, these tsunami events, their generation mechanisms, propagations in the Aegean Sea and their coastal effects have been investigated using observation data and comparisons with the results of numerical simulations. The results of the comparisons are also discussed by considering the preparedness and mitigation measures against the tsunami events in the region.
