Effects of processing parameters on mechanical and thermal properties of glass mat reinforced nylon 6 composites
Akkaoui, W; Bayram, Göknur (SAGE Publications, 2004-01-01)
Nylon 6 (PA6)/Glass Mat (GM) composites and pure PA6 were prepared by compression molding technique and the effects of molding temperature, pressure application time and GM content on the final properties of the materials were investigated. At each temperature and pressure application time, the composite with one layer GM had higher tensile strength, tensile modulus but lower % elongation at break than neat PA6. Processing parameters did not significantly influence the tensile behavior of the pure PA6 and P...
Effects of mold temperature and vacuum in resin transfer molding
Akgül, Eralp; Kaynak, Cevdet; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2006)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mold temperature, initial resin temperature, and the vacuum, applied at resin exit ports, on the mechanical properties of epoxy matrix woven glasss fiber reinforced composite specimens produced by Resin Transfer Molding (RTM). For this purpose, six different mold temperatures (25º, 40º, 60º, 80º, 100º, and 120ºC), two initial resin temperatures (15º and 28ºC), and vacuum (0.03 bar) and without vacuum (~1 bar) conditions were used. Specimens were ch...
Effects of Distributed Air-Gaps in the Iron-Core of Shunt Reactors on Inductance Components and Losses
Donuk, A.; Bilgin, H. F.; Ermiş, Muammer (2012-05-01)
In this paper, effects of dividing the air-gap in the iron-core of shunt reactors into several discrete gaps on inductance parameters of the equivalent circuit, core losses and gap losses are investigated. This is achieved by both analytical calculations and Finite Element Method based analyses. A new method called Moving Strip Method is also introduced to estimate the gap loss in the iron-core of shunt reactors having discretely distributed small air-gaps relative to those with large air-gaps. Theoretical ...
Effects of heat input on metallurgical behavior in HAZ of multi-pass and multi-layer welded IN-939 superalloy
Mashhuriazar, Amirhossein; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Sajuri, Zainuddin; Omidvar, Hamid (2021-11-01)
The hot components of a gas turbine are susceptible to damage in the high-temperature environment of turbine engine operation. Given that these components are relatively costly to manufacture, they are often repaired than replaced when damaged. Fusion welding is an economical method for repairing the damaged components of a gas turbine. This research examines the roles of heat input, pass number and layer number on the intergranular liquation cracking of the Inconel-939 (IN-939) precipitate nickel base supe...
EFFECTS OF COPPER ELECTROPLATING PARAMETERS ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF Al-Cu BRAZED JOINTS
Özdemir, Ayşe; Karakaya, İshak; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-12-02)
Almost 25, 50 and 75 microns of copper were deposited on aluminum alloys by using copper sulfate and copper pyrophosphate baths. And also, 20, 40 and 60 mA/cm2 current density were applied during electroplating process. After electroplating process, copper deposited aluminum pieces were brazed at 570℃ for 15 minutes by using furnace brazing in the first part of study. Shear test were applied to samples and strength of the joint which was brazed with sample that had 75 microns thickness coated at 60 mA/cm2 c...
