The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived physical literacy and physical self perception of the high school students aged 14-19 in Kadıköy, İstanbul. Total of 417 (224 girls, 193 boys) high school students from four high schools participated in the study in the 2023-2024 academic year. The "Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument for Adolescents'' [PPLI] (Sum et al., 2018; Yılmaz and Kabak, 2021) and the "Physical Self Description Questionnaire Short Form'' [PSDQ-S] (Marsh et al., 2010; Urfa et al., 2019) were used in the study. The findings of the study demonstrated that the students reported relatively high levels on the overall perceived physical literacy and the ''self-expression and communication with others‘‘ sub-dimension, and moderately high levels on the ''knowledge and understanding‘‘ and ''sense of self and self-confidence‘‘ sub-dimension; a moderate level on overall physical self-perception and moderate perceptions of activity, body fat, sport competence, global physical self-concept, appearance, strength, and flexibility sub-dimensions. They exhibited strong perceptions of health, coordination, and global self-esteem, and slightly lower perceptions of endurance and fitness. The findings indicated a strong positive correlation between PPLI Total and PSD Total, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of r=.746. The p-value (p < .001) indicates that this correlation is very large and significant at the 0.01 level. In conclusion, these findings highlight the importance of integrating physical literacy into educational settings to support adolescents‘ physical development and active lifestyles.
