The first of the Traditional Eymir Lake Festival and Tree Planting Festivals, which brought the METU Forest to Ankara, was held in 1961. The events held every year in the spring months included planting trees around the lake, volleyball matches, athletics competitions, free fishing competitions, as well as rowing and swimming races with cup ceremonies held in the Boathouse built by the lake.
