The integration level of renewable energy resources has been continuously increasing in recent years introducing several technical challenges for utility and Independent System Operator (ISO) protection and planning engineers. The power electronics associated with some wind turbine generators (WTGs) and solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters can produce current waveform signatures that are significantly different from those of traditional synchronous or asynchronous generators. This paper proposes a new phasor domain modeling approach for Type-IV WTGs that considers the impact of control.
