Application of Si Nanowires Fabricated by Metal-Assisted Etching to Crystalline Si Solar Cells
KULAKCI, Mustafa; ES, FIRAT; ÖZDEMİR, Baris; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Turan, Raşit (2013-01-01)
Reflection and transmission through a solar cell can be significantly reduced using light-trapping structures. This approach can be applied to both crystalline and thin-film solar cells to improve the light absorption and conversion efficiency of the cell. In this study, vertically aligned Si nanowires were fabricated over a large area via a metal-assisted etching technique. Following a detailed parametric study, nanowires were applied to industrial-size (156 mm x 156 mm) Si solar cells. The reflectivity fr...
Application of piezoelectrics to smart structures
Eswar, Prasad; Davıd, Waechter; Rıck, Blacow; Hubert, Kıng; Yaman, Yavuz (null; 2005-08-01)
This paper describes piezoelectric materials, actuators and their use in smart structures. The paper provides criteria for the evaluation and selection of piezoelectric materials and actuator configurations. Typical applications using piezoelectrics in smart structures are also presented, with particular emphasis on shape and vibration control.
Application of CaO-based/Au nanoparticles as heterogeneous nanocatalysts in biodiesel production
Bet-Moushoul, Elsie; Farhadi, Khalil; Mansourpanah, Yaghoub; Nikbakht, Ali Mohammad; Molaei, Rahim; Forough, Mehrdad (2016-01-01)
In this work, five different types of calcium oxide-based catalysts supported gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) (named as nanocatalyst), including commercial CaO, egg shell, mussel shell, calcite, and dolomite were prepared and used in biodiesel synthesis. The optimal conditions of transesterification process were observed at 65 degrees C with a methanol to oil molar ratio of 9:1, a reaction time of 3 h and a catalyst loading of 3%. Under optimum conditions, the oil conversion was in the range of 90-97% and the gl...
Application of ab initio methods to secondary lithium batteries
Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Ceder, G. (1998-01-01)
Ab initio methods have started to be widely used in materials science for the prediction of properties of metals, alloys and compounds. These methods basically require only the atomic numbers of the constituent species. Such methods not only provide us with predictions of some of the properties of the material (even before synthesizing it) but also help us in understanding the phenomena that control those properties. The use of ab initio methods in the field of electrochemistry is, however, quite recent and...
Application of Ionic Liquids in Pot-in-Pot Reactions
Çınar, Simge; Oyola-Reynoso, Stephanie; BWAMBOK, David K.; GATHIAKA, Symon M.; Thuo, Martin (MDPI AG, 2016-03-01)
Pot-in-pot reactions are designed such that two reaction media (solvents, catalysts and reagents) are isolated from each other by a polymeric membrane similar to matryoshka dolls (Russian nesting dolls). The first reaction is allowed to progress to completion before triggering the second reaction in which all necessary solvents, reactants, or catalysts are placed except for the starting reagent for the target reaction. With the appropriate trigger, in most cases unidirectional flux, the product of the first...
