The paper highlights the potential use of wind energy conversion systems for the mitigation of Subsynchronous Resonance (SSR) and Subsynchronous Interaction (SSI). SSR and SSI damping is attained by introducing supplemental control signals in the reactive power control loops of the grid side converters of Full-Frequency Converter (FFC) and Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) wind turbines. The effectiveness of the supplemental control in mitigating the two phenomena is demonstrated on a test benchmark through time domain simulation studies using EMTP-RV.
