This research aims to examine the housing experiences of university students residing in Bartın, a small city in Turkey, with a particular focus on the key factors influencing their living arrangements. While the existing body of literature on student accommodation largely centers around urban contexts and metropolitan settings, this study contributes to the field by exploring the relatively underrepresented experiences of students in smaller cities. To conduct the study, semi-structured interviews were carried out with 20 students, and the collected data were subjected to content analysis. The analysis focused on three main housing types: state-run dormitories (KYK), rented apartments, and co-residence with family members. These housing arrangements were examined in relation to various factors, including gender dynamics, financial means, and the extent of familial support. Additionally, the study considered how students balance their academic responsibilities with part-time or full-time employment. By situating the analysis within the broader framework of Turkey’s familial welfare regime, this thesis aims to provide insight into how national housing policies are experienced at the individual level. It offers a qualitative perspective on how these policies intersect with the daily lives of young people and shape their housing realities.
