Database management systems are indispensable to almost every organization that maintains an IT infrastructure. For this reason, organizations need to ensure database management systems’ security and the security of data residing within them, just as they do with their performance. Microsoft SQL Server is a well-known database management system that is widely used in Türkiye and globally. Although it is used quite densely, enabling security mechanisms are generally discarded by database administrators, leading to data breaches or destructive attacks. This study aims to provide security awareness to database administrators and guide them to apply built-in security practices, considering prominent security and privacy frameworks such as NIST’s SP 800-53 or GDPR
