This study explores the potential for heritage buildings to achieve green building certification through adaptive reuse. The research focuses on four leading certification systems: LEED (United States), BREEAM (United Kingdom), DGNB (Germany) and YeS-TR (Türkiye). The study aims to identify the key strategies and criteria involved in the process of heritage buildings gaining green building certification through a comparative analysis of the Boğaziçi University Gözlükule Research Center building, which has successfully achieved LEED Gold certification. The findings will shed light on how these buildings have met the necessary certification requirements and compare the strengths and limitations of each system. Based on this comparative analysis, recommendations will be provided to develop the YeS-TR certification framework for Türkiye to support sustainable adaptive reuse practices of heritage buildings. This research makes a significant contribution to the field of building science by bridging heritage conservation and green certification and offers a pathway for sustainable redevelopment in the Turkish context.
