A model for performance evaluation and stock optimization in a kit management problem
GÜLLÜ, AHMET REFİK; Köksalan, Mustafa Murat (2013-06-01)
In this paper we consider a kit planning problem where demand occurrences are not for individual items, but for kits (a group of items). Each kit contains an arbitrary number of items. Kit demands occur according to a Poisson process. Whenever a kit demand occurs, only one item from the kit is used and the rest is returned as unused. The item that will be used from the kit is not known in advance and the whole kit has to stay at the demand site for the whole duration. The used item is replenished through a ...

A model for the conservation of geological remains as documents
Sol, Ayhan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1999-01-01)
Geological remains are conserved mainly either together with living beings for the sake of the integrity of nature or for their economical or aesthetic value. However, they also have scientific value for the geologist to reconstruct the earth's past. For this reason we propose a model which is an application of marginal utility theory in economics and takes into account the informational utility of geological remains. Informational utility of geological remains ranges over their geological significance whic...
A methodology for evaluating environmental co-benefits in the transport sector: application to the Delhi metro
Doll, Christopher N. H.; Balaban, Osman (Elsevier BV, 2013-11-01)
This paper presents a methodology to measure the environmental co-benefits of transport initiatives, defined here as carbon emissions in conjunction with local air pollution. An evaluation tool was developed and then tested on the case of the Delhi metro. The metro is an extensive rail project spanning the Indian capital, which is also the world's first rail based Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project. However, it has also been a flashpoint in urban policy-making in the city in recent years. This analys...
A system level modeling and performance evaluation of concentrated solar power plant
Hasany, Syed Zaid; Uzgören, Eray; Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems (2013-12)
This thesis presents a system level study for a solar thermal power plant comprising of parabolic trough collectors (PTC), an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) and a wet cooling tower. A transient numerical model is developed for the PTC accounting the thermal losses and coping up with the intermittent and inherent variable solar input. The transient PTC model is validated with the experimental and numerical results and extended to the double pass counter flow PTC configuration. It is found that there is no signi...
