Modeling of radiative heat transfer in strongly forward scattering media of bubbling fluidized bed combustor with and without recycle
Şen, Özge; Külah, Görkem; Selçuk, Nevin; Department of Chemical Engineering (2017)
Predictive accuracy and CPU efficiency of geometric optics approximation (GOA) and scattering phase function simplifications in the freeboard of lignite-fired METU 0.3 MWt ABFBC Test Rig were tested by applying them to the modeling of radiative heat transfer and comparing their predictions against measurements and benchmark solutions. The freeboard was treated as 3-D rectangular enclosure containing grey, absorbing, emitting gas with grey, absorbing, emitting, non/isotropically/anisotropically scattering pa...
Modeling of Multi Open Phase Fault Condition of Multi-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
Fei, Marco; Zanasi, Roberto (2011-09-10)
This paper deals with the modeling of multi-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors under multi open phase fault condition. The presented model is suitable for generic number of phases, generic shape of the rotor flux and generic number of open circuit faults. The motor model in fault condition can be used for faults occurring on both adjacent and not adjacent phases. The model can be very useful both for simulation and implementation of fault-tolerant control strategies.
MODELING OF EVAPORATION FROM A SESSILE CONSTANT SHAPE DROPLET
Akkus, Yigit; ÇETİN, BARBAROS; Dursunkaya, Zafer (2017-08-30)
In this study, a computational model for the evaporation from a sessile liquid droplet fed from the center to keep the diameter of the droplet constant is presented. The continuity, momentum and energy equations are solved with temperature dependent thenno-physical properties using COMSOL Multi-physics. At the surface of the droplet, convective heat and evaporative mass fluxes are assigned. Since the flow field is affected by evaporative flux, an iterative scheme is built and the computation is automated us...
Modeling of catalytic ozonation process in a three-phase reactor
Erol, Funda; Oezbelge, Tuelay A.; Oezbelge, H. Oender (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this research, the main objective was to determine the flow characteristics of a three-phase reactor in order to use this knowledge in the modeling of catalytic ozonation of aqueous dye solutions. Therefore, the stimulus-response method was used in the tracer experiments; thus, the degree of liquid mixing in the reactor was estimated by means of residence time distribution, Peclet number and axial dispersion coefficient in the presence and the absence of the catalyst. Experimental data were obtained by p...
Modeling of dispersion in a polymeric chromatographic monolith
Koku, Harun; Schure, Mark R.; Lenhoff, Abraham M. (Elsevier BV, 2012-05-11)
Dispersion in a commercial polymeric monolith was simulated on a sample geometry obtained by direct imaging using high-resolution electron microscopy. A parallelized random walk algorithm, implemented using a velocity field obtained previously by the lattice-Boltzmann method, was used to model mass transfer. Both point particles and probes of finite size were studied. Dispersion simulations with point particles using periodic boundaries resulted in plate heights that varied almost linearly with flow rate, a...
