ANALYSIS OF MILLIMETER WAVE-GUIDES ON ANISOTROPIC SUBSTRATES USING THE 3-DIMENSIONAL TRANSMISSION-LINE MATRIX-METHOD
BULUTAY, C; PRASAD, S (1993-06-01)
Three-dimensional condensed asymmetrical node, variable grid, transmission-line matrix (TLM) method has been used in analyzing several millimeter waveguides on anisotropic substrates. The dispersion characteristics of image guides together with field and energy confinement properties at millimeter-wave frequencies have been investigated. Edge coupled microstrip line on a uniaxial substrate is analyzed for the even and odd mode dispersion characteristics. Finally the same analysis is repeated for bilateral f...
Calculation of acoustical scattering from a cluster of scatterers
Koc, S; Chew, WC (1998-02-01)
The problem of determining the field scattered by a cluster of scatterers when they are insonified by a known acoustical field is addressed. The problem is formulated by using the T-matrix method and the resulting system of linear equations is solved by using the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) and the fast multipole method-fast Fourier transform (FMMFFT) method, and the efficiency of the two methods is compared. It was observed that, in general, the MLFMA performs better than the FMMFFT algorit...

Analytical solutions of shallow-water wave equations
Aydın, Baran; Kanoğlu, Utku; Department of Engineering Sciences (2011)
Analytical solutions for the linear and nonlinear shallow-water wave equations are developed for evolution and runup of tsunamis –long waves– over one- and two-dimensional bathymetries. In one-dimensional case, the nonlinear equations are solved for a plane beach using the hodograph transformation with eigenfunction expansion or integral transform methods under different initial conditions, i.e., earthquake-generated waves, wind set-down relaxation, and landslide-generated waves. In two-dimensional case, th...
A new differential formulation of acoustic scattering by rotationally symmetrical penetrable scatterers
Günalp, Nilgün; TOSUN, H (1994-07-01)
A new differential formulation is presented for acoustic wave scattering from rotationally symmetric penetrable bodies. The numerical implementation of this formulation is fairly simple, and comprises basically the construction of the state-transition matrix of a system of differential equations and the solution of a matrix equation. The validity and the accuracy of the numerical scheme are tested considering objects of known scattering behavior. Other numerical applications are also presented to demonstrat...
