X-ray analysis of high mass x-ray binary pulsars
Şahiner, Şeyda; Baykal, Altan; İnam, Sıtkı Çağdaş; Department of Physics (2015)
In this thesis, X-ray properties of three high mass X-ray binary (HMXB) pulsars are analysed, using the data of X-ray satellites such as RXTE, INTEGRAL and Swift. Selected sources belong to different subgroups of the HMXB family. The first system, 4U 1907+09 is a classical wind-fed supergiant system with persistent X-ray emission; although it shows irregular flares and dips. SWIFT J1729.9-3437 and SWIFT J0513.4-6547 are newly discovered transient systems. Although the counterpart of SWIFT J1729.9-3437 could...
X-ray investigation of sintered cadmium doped hydroxyapatites
Evis, Zafer; USTA, Metin; AKTUĞ, SALİM LEVENT (2013-04-01)
Pure and cadmium (Cd) doped hydroxyapatites (HA, Ca-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2)) were synthesized by a precipitation method from aqueous solutions of Ca(NO3)(2)4 center dot H2O for the former and Cd(NO3)(2)4 center dot H2O for the latter, by using (NH4)(2)HPO4 as the phosphate source, while pH was kept in the range of 11-12. The effect of incorporation of Cd2+ ions into the structure of HA was investigated after the air sintering at 1100 degrees C for 1 h. The results indicate that Cd2+ addition into HA yields nearly...
X-ray timing properties of four anomalous x-ray pulsars: 4u 0142+61, 1e 2259+586, 1rxs j170849.0_400910, and 1e 1841_045
Çerri, Danjela; Baykal, Altan; İnam, Sıtkı Çağdaş; Department of Physics (2015)
In this thesis, the detailed X-ray timing characteristics of four Anomalous X-Ray Pulsars (AXPs); 4U 0142+61, 1E 2259+586, 1RXS J170849.0 -400910, and 1E 1841- 045 are presented for glitch free time intervals using data taken by Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). The pulse arrival times of these AXPs are evaluated by phase coherent timing method. After the removal of the spin-down trend from pulse arrivals, remaining residuals are used for estimation of their noise strengths. Possible correlation of the no...
X-ray powder diffraction and IR study of NaMg(H2O)(2)[BP2O8]center dot H2O and NH4Mg(H2O)(2)[BP2O8]center dot H2O
Baykal, Altan; Kniep, R (2000-09-01)
NaMg(H2O)(2)[BP2O8]. H2O was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and was characterized by X-ray powder difraction and IR method. The title compound was synthesized from MgCl2. 6H(2)O, NaBO3. 4H(2)O, and (NH4)(2)HPO4 with variable molar ratios using hydrothermal method by heating at 165 degrees C for 3 days. The X-ray powder diffraction data was indexed in hexagonal system, the unit cell parameters were found to be as a = 9.428, c = 15.82 Angstrom, Z = 4 and the space group is P6(1)22. It is isostructural wit...
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study on the photodegradation of copolyester model compounds
Arangdad, Kiarash; Yıldırım, Erol; Detwiler, Andrew; Cleven, Curtis D.; Burk, Christopher; Shamey, Renzo; Pasquinelli, Melissa A.; Freeman, Harold; El-Shafei, Ahmed (Wiley, 2020-07-01)
The photodegradation of irradiated PETG and PCCT model compounds namely Tm-CHDM-Tm and Tm-TMCD-Tm, where Tm refers to the methyl ester of terephthalic acid, CHDM refers to 1, 4-cyclohexanedimethanol, and TMCD refers to tetramethyl-1, 3-cyclobutanediol, was analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Photodegradation products were characterized based on high resolution O(1s)x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra and the spectra of irradiated model compounds showed a decrease in the relative inte...
