Atmospheric turbulent flowsolutions coupled with a mesoscale weather prediction model
Leblebici, Engin; Ahmet, Gökhan; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı (2013-01-01)
Atmospheric turbulent flow solutions coupled with a mesoscale meteorological weather prediction software are obtained on terrain fitted high resolution computational grids using FLUENT as a CFD tool. The terrain topology of interest, which may be obtained in various resolution levels, is accurately modeled using unstructured grids. The widely used meteorological weather prediction software WRF is used to provide unsteady boundary conditions for the CFD solution domain. Due to difference of mesh structure an...
Atmospheric correction and image classification on MODIS images by nonparametric regression splines
Kuter, Semih; Düzgün, H. Şebnem; Işık, Oğuz; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2014)
In this study, two novel applications of nonparametric regression splines are introduced within the frame of remote sensing: (i) For the first time ever, atmospheric correction models are generated for moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) images by using multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), and its recently introduced version, conic multivariate adaptive regression splines (CMARS). The obtained models are applied on the predefined test areas of twenty four different MODIS scenes...
Satellite attitude determination based on GPS carrier phase measurements
Özten, Evrim; Tekinalp, Ozan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2013)
With the developments in the GPS receiver technology, GPS receivers have been preferable equipments also for the space applications. In the early eighties, they have been used only for position, velocity and time determination. With the further improvements, it has been proven that they can provide not only the positioning information, but also attitude knowledge with the accuracy less than 1 degree. In this thesis, an estimation algorithm is developed in the MATLAB Simulink environment for the attitude det...

Atmospheric mercury distribution in Northern Europe and in the Mediterranean region
Wängberg, Ingvar; et. al. (2001-06-01)
Mercury species in air have been measured at five sites in Northwest Europe and at five coastal sites in the Mediterranean region during measurements at four seasons. Observed concentrations of total gaseous mercury (TGM), total particulate mercury (TPM) and reactive gaseous mercury (RGM) were generally slightly higher in the Mediterranean region than in Northwest Europe. Incoming clean Atlantic air seems to be enriched in TGM in comparison to air in Scandinavia. Trajectory analysis of events where high con...
