Analysis of a deterministic demand production/inventory system under nonstationary supply uncertainty
Gullu, R; Onol, E; Erkip, N (Informa UK Limited, 1997-08-01)
In this article we investigate a periodic review inventory model under deterministic dynamic demand and supply unavailability. In a given period, supply is either available or completely unavailable with given probabilities. Supply unavailability probabilities are nonstationary over time. We show the optimality of an order-up-to level policy, and obtain a newsboy-like formula that determines the optimal order-up-to levels. Our formula would provide guidence as to the appropriate amount of inventory to stock...
Analysis of serial inventory systems under nonstationary demand
Baskan, Fevzi; Güllü, Refik; Department of Industrial Engineering (2004)
In this study we consider a two-echelon supply chain with a nonstationary demand process. The retailer batches the customer demand for a predetermined number of periods before placing an order to the supplier. We show that the demand process for the supplier is more variable than that for the retailer. It is observed that the supplier can reduce the variability of orders by tracking the exogenous demand occurring at the retailer's side.
Analysis of the thermoviscoplastic behavior of [0/90] SCS-6/timetal®21S composites
Çöker, Demirkan; Nicholas, Theodore (1996-01-01)
Micromechanical modeling is used to determine the stresses and strains due to both mechanical and thermal loads in [0/90] titanium matrix composites (TMCs) subjected to cooldown from the processing temperature and subsequent thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) loading conditions. The [0/90] composite is treated as a material system composed of three constituents: fiber and matrix in the [0] ply, and a [90] ply. The [0/90]s layup is modeled by a uniaxial stress rule of mixtures model for the [0] ply and adding a ...
Analysis of an inventory system under supply uncertainty
Gullu, R; Onol, E; Erkip, N (Elsevier BV, 1999-03-20)
In this paper, we analyze a periodic review, single-item inventory model under supply uncertainty. The objective is to minimize expected holding and backorder costs over a finite planning horizon under the supply constraints. The uncertainty in supply is modeled using a three-point probability mass function. The supply is either completely available, partially available, or the supply is unavailable. Machine breakdowns, shortages in the capacity of the supplier, strikes, etc., are possible causes of uncerta...
Analysis of Local Thermal Equilibrium Assumption in Transient Forced Convection in a Graphite Foam Channel
Gürüf, Gürşah; Solmaz, İsmail; Bayer, Özgür (2020-12-01)
In this study, the validity of Local Thermal Equilibrium (LTE) assumption in the transient forced convection of a rectangular channel filled with a block of graphite foam is examined numerically. The governing macroscopic energy conservation equations for solid and gas phases are derived by taking the average of the microscopic one over the averaging volume. Initially, LTE is in existence between the phases and then, the fluid temperature at the channel inlet is suddenly raised. Besides, an appropriate insu...
