This thesis examines the Sino-Israeli relations between 2013 and 2023 within the broader context of shifting global power dynamics. It explores how the emerging Sino-American “Cold War” has influenced the Middle Eastern geopolitics and shaped the trajectory of China-Israel interactions. Using qualitative research methods and critical foreign policy analysis, the study investigates the evolving nature of their bilateral relationship, with particular attention to economic and diplomatic engagements. China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is taken as a key parameter of the Chinese economic activity in Israel (2013-2023) as part of its expansion strategy toward the Middle East, where its “securitization of economy” and renewal of “economic nationalism” in the realms of trade, industrial, technology, and investment policy were collectively directed against the U.S. global dominance. Unlike most of the literature, which deals with the Israeli foreign policy through its close alliance with the West and deep affiliation with the United States, owing to the historical and strategic bonds of Zionism, the study aims to fill a gap and open a less explored area of research, challenging the traditional ideas about Israel's geopolitical identity and alliances. Specifically focusing on Israel’s rising interactions with Asia, particularly China, the study attempts to address whether the Israeli foreign policy may be experiencing a shift or a challenge to set a balance during this period, analyzing how smaller states navigate complex international pressures while pursuing their national interests.
