Urban resilience is often explained as the skill to absorb, adapt, and transform when encountering a disturbance or any sudden change in the system. In literature, it is generally discussed separately under two main categories: ‘general resilience’that handles the whole system to enhance its capacity without any specific focus, and ‘specified resilience’that centers certain disturbance factors (i.e., crises, disasters).Nevertheless, few studies tend to associate them within a joint framework, yet lacking a quantifiable definition. Therefore, general urban resilience needs to be quantified in specified contexts by further studies. The primary purpose of this study, in this context, is to discover the morphological thresholds of urban resilience indicators, which are generally taken for granted in the literature, and to explore their actual limits to a certain extent. The specific resilience category of this research will be the energy performance of the urban form in the very context of the climate and energy crisis. Herein, (1) the sampling fabric will be examined by the clustering analysis based on selected parameters that are argued to increase spatial capacity and resiliencein general, and (2) an analysis will be made on the impact of the specified resilience indicators on energy performance, specifically. To that aim, following a comprehensive literature review (involving 53 publications in total), the prescriptive indicators of (general) urban resilience have been determined for the morphological resolution of the plot, block, and street-edge. Through the selected indicators, k-means clustering method will be conducted in Helsinki, Finland. To correlate all those general resilience indicators with energy performance, building-level energy use data will be applied. In this way, clusters based on prescriptive indicators to provide a foundation for general spatial capacity, and the threshold of each indicator in the context of energy performance would be provided on a parametric basis.
