INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF MULTI-STRESSORS ON BLACK SEA BY DIATOMS AND DINOFLAGELLATE CYSTS CHANGES AT BENTHIC ECOSYSTEMS IN THE CASE OF SINOP

2024-10-14
The Black Sea faces environmental challenges like warming, eutrophication, and human activities. Benthic diatoms and dinoflagellate cysts are used as indicators due to their sensitivity. This study aims to assess their abundance and composition against multiple stressors, tracking biogeochemical changes using conventional and innovative methods. Core samples from 7 stations offshore Sinop were collected by the R/V Bilim-2 on June 2023. Measurements of porewater for dissolved inorganic nutrients and solid state Total Organic Carbon (TOC), and Total Nitrogen (TN) are performed for biogeochemical characterization. Results show spatial variations among stations. Diatom and dinoflagellate cysts analysis is ongoing. Integrating biological indicators withsediment biogeochemistry can enhance future studies and monitoring efforts significantly.
