A comprehensive experimental program was conducted to evaluate the effects of mechanical property changes and particle size distribution (PSD) alterations of plicated limestone and weathered basalt under FT cycles. Data from uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), porosity, Los Angeles abrasion, slake durability (SDI), and large-scale uniaxial loading tests quantitatively revealed the effects of FT cycles on the microstructural integrity. The findings indicate that plicated limestone exhibits a significant strength loss, porosity increase, and particle breakage, demonstrating higher susceptibility to FT compared to weathered basalt. These results emphasize the necessity of incorporating FT-related deterioration into material selection and design parameters for rockfill and tailing dams.
