Sedimentology and stratigraphy of türbeyanı marl sequences and inpiri limestones (late barremian-albian) : implications for possible source and reservoir rocks (nw Turkey)
Nabiyev, Anar; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2007)
Sedimentology, cyclostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy of the Türbeyanı Marls (Albian) and the İnpiri Limestone (Upper Barremian-Albian) members of Ulus Formation (İnciğez, Bartın, Amasra) were interpreted in this study. In the Türbeyanı Marls total of five different facies were defined. Marl and limestone facies are the most abundant in the succession. The depositional environment of the succession was defined as an outer shelf area. Within the pelagic marls 39 smaller order and 9 higher order cycles w...
GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RECENT SEDIMENTS FROM THE SEA OF MARMARA
BODUR, MN; ERGIN, M (Elsevier BV, 1994-07-01)
Six box-cores, one boomerang core and one hundred sixty-six surface sediment samples recovered in the Sea of Marmara were analyzed in an attempt to establish the main controls on distribution and origin of trace metals within the oxic to suboxic basin of this sea.
Sedimentological, cyclostratigraphical and sequence stratigraphical analysis of cretaceous Üzümlü formation (NW Turkey)
Keskinler, Salih Yiğit; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Department of Geological Engineering (2007)
High resolution sampling was performed along the Üzümlü Formation exposed near the Yeniceşıhlar village of Mudurnu (Bolu). Field and thin-section analyses showed that the Üzümlü Formation is composed of cm to m scale cycles of 4th and 5th order. The 4th order cycles are equivalencies of parasequences and have 0.4 Ma average duration. 5th order cycles are interpreted as episodic. Upper Albian (OAE1c or OAE1d) and Cenomanian/Turonian (OAE2) anoxic events are observed as black shale levels in the studied secti...
Geotechnical characterization and performance assessment of bentonite/sand mixtures for underground waste repository sealing
Akgün, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2010-08-01)
The objective of this study is to assess the performance of a bentonite/sand mixture for the sealing of underground waste repositories through performing geotechnical laboratory tests such as compaction and flow tests. Swelling, mechanical and shear strength tests along with analyses of seal/rock mechanical interactions of an axially loaded seal in rock have been conducted to recommend an optimum compacted bentonite/sand mixture and a suitable bentonite/sand seal length-to-radius ratio (L/a) as a function o...
SEISMIC STRATIGRAPHY AND LATE QUATERNARY SEDIMENTS IN INNER AND MID-SHELF AREAS OF EASTERN MERSIN BAY, NORTHEASTERN MEDITERRANEAN-SEA
ERGIN, M; OKYAR, M; TIMUR, K (Elsevier BV, 1992-02-29)
High-resolution shallow-seismic reflection (Uniboom) profiles obtained in inner and mid-shelf areas of eastern Mersin Bay (Turkey, northeastern Mediterranean) show that the sedimentary column comprises two major and distinct lithological sequences (C and B) separated by a reflector (R) which is interpreted as the pre-Holocene surface. The upper sedimentary sequence (C) is thought to represent roughly the Holocene and is characterized by parallel/divergent to sigmoidal reflection patterns above (Unit 1) and ...
