The reports presents a timeline and database of sustainability-related, innovative, and inclusive participation and engagement practices in Europe since the early days of digitalisation. The report is based on newly assembled data on Democratic Innovations collected from publicly accessible sources, with a specific focus on their contribution to social and environmental sustainability. By mapping the dynamics of implementation of Democratic innovations across Europe, the deliverable provides valuable insights into the potential for these innovations to foster more inclusive and resilient societies in line with social and environmental development goals.Methodologically the development of the database undertook a comprehensive approach to map cases of Democratic Innovations across Europe. Utilising various open-access databases, the research team developed a systematic method for data collection and analysis. This process involved identifying relevant cases of Democratic Innovations, categorising them based on specific criteria, like citizen involvement, scales of governance and policy areas, and analysing their geographical distribution and characteristics. The report describes a comprehensive database of Democratic Innovations in Europe, which enables diverse analysis of the state of Democratic Innovations in Europe, offering valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners interested in leveraging Democratic Innovations to promote sustainability and democratic engagement.
