This report presents an automated web-based single-line diagram layout and visualization system for electrical substations. The proposed system seeks to remove the need for manually drafted, error prone layouts in order to produce standardized readable schematics from operational data in the national grid. Although there are visualization systems available, the proposed system is specifically built to interact with Turkey's National Load Dispatch System in order to parse specific data structures of TEİAŞ. To this end, we employed a hybrid algorithmic approach which integrates the Sugiyama hierarchical layout method to place intra-substation components, along with a custom set of heuristics based on orthogonal routing methods to route inter-substation connections. The proposed solution generates layouts of small to medium size substation models allowing engineers to quickly develop a visualization environment. The system also supports real-time power flow animation by dynamically showing the direction of energy transfer through the transmission lines.
